An assessment conducted by ISS ESG awarded ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG first place for the fourth time in a row for its climate protection performance. It is a result of the successful environmental management and energy efficiency practices of the company.
ÖBB is the Austrianrail infrastructure company that operates and develops; train stations, routes, buildings, terminals, telecommunication systems and hydropower plants for environmentally-friendly railways. They manage all the assets belonging to the railway system and are therefore one of the largest property owners in Austria.

The reputation of railway companies has been improving rapidly as a result of their smaller carbon footprint compared to alternative transportation modes. At the same time they also invest in climate initiatives, in the region there are examples even for planned carbon offsetting initiatives.
